Hi! My name is Shell and I would like to tell you my tbi story:

On Labor Day weekend of 9-4-94 I was in a terrible near fatal car wreck w/ my "x".

It was midnight and my x had gone down to my cousin's to pick me up from babsitting for her. We were in an older vehicle a dodge dart.It only had lap belts in it.

I don't remeber my acc. but this is what I have been told.

The cops had been chasing this guy for 45 minutes, and the guy was drunk and on drugs. My x and I were on hwy 39 at midnight and the cops had us pulled over and the guy they had been chasing hit us on my side of the vehicle at 85 mph (or so).

Well,from the force of the impact I hit the gear shift of our car and sustained a severe head injury, along with other injuries that I will tell about.

I was having grand-mal seisures @ the scene of the accident and in the ambulance.

My other injuries included: I broke my left jaw, I have a wire mesh below my left eye(thank God I can still see!), I have 3 or 4 plates in my left cheek,I have a plate in my right arm and some real small plates below the hairline of my left side of head.

I was in a coma for 12 days. I had to be taken over to Medford oregon to one of two hospitals I was in. I had to live in a foster home for 5 mths. and do cognitive, speech, and physical therapies.

My accident was 7 yrs. ago and with God's help I am still recovering.

One of the hardest parts of my tbi is finding work and friends.

P.S. Thank God I haven't had a seisure since my accident but I am on seisure meds because I have a low dose of seisure activity in my brain.
