Shaun Best

At the age of 12 I was hit by a truck in the head, which resulted in a coma of three months back in 1977 in Arkansas. My parents did not require me to wear a helmet when riding a three wheeler, which are now outlawed. My parents split up & my father got custody, he denied/stopped the medication that the doctors had put me on in 1979. My mother didn't care about me, because she was out partying with alcohol, tobacco, etc., or trying to find her a new man. My father is a drunk, so he didn't care much about me, but my grandmother did & this is who I credit with my success. There are many more challenges that I've faced & conquered. I've been blessed to achieve as much as I've, because I know that many will never become the potential that they could have, if given the correct quidance. Parents, sometime limit us in our development with name calling & hatred that we will never be what they wanted.

I'm including my newest video web page: www.SpeakersQuest.com/speakers/Best.htm. I am an substitute elementary teacher at the Brunson Elementary School in Warren, Arkansas. I was recruited in 1993 by Southern Arkansas University (SAU) to teach others with brain challenges that that they could be whatever they choose or successful. However, neither one of these foundations wanted me to continue my positive advocacy, even though brain challenges or traumatic brain injuries (TBI) is still the number one disability in America, with the Discovery Channel calling it the silent epidemic. My cost to you has only been about $2 million, however if the Census Bureau (CB) are correct it will cost you another $2 million before I die. The reason I can say this is the CB tells us that the lifetime cost of a brain challenge can exceed/cost $4 million as of 1990. SAU in Magnolia, AR, is were I went to b

Why are we legally allowed to address other humans with shameful, hurtful, negative terms, i.e., disabled, retarded, disadvantaged, handicap, cripple, injury, etc.? I call this or these terms the "disability environment", because once you are confirmed as disabled, there is no road back to being non-disabled & few will trust you. Your creditability is very low. We will all account for this unethical behavior, what will you do? Why are these terms, beneficial?
