The person driving behind me called 911 and the rescue team got there. They had to use the jaws of life to get me out of my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta. (that's where I get my email name from!)The fire team also called for a helicopter to transport me to UC Davis hospital.
When I got to the hospital, I had to have five surgeries. A pelvis stabilizer to heal my pelvic bone correctly, two surgeries to repair my spleen, one to put my breathing trach in, a ICP put in my head to watch my brain swelling. Intercranial pressure monitor.
I spent four and a half months in three different hospitals. When I came home from the hospital I had to relearn everything, how to swallow, how to talk and my manners had to be retaught to me.
Also when I got home from the hospital, I thought nothing was wrong with me. I didn't understand why people treated me different. Why I couldn't hang out with my friends as usual. What I didn't realize was how devastating the accident was. A former boyfriend doesn't talk to me anymore.
Also at the time of my tbi my friends were getting full time jobs. I was still thinking that life was just one big party. So, I had that added stress as I recovered from my tbi. Sure, I also had the suicidal thoughts and 'why God did you save my life?'But now I am sure glad God choose me to do a miracle through.
I take muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory, pain killers, antidepressant and bladder control pills. Feel free to email me but just put in the subject line something about a brain injury.
