But life goes on and so do we and I will not give up on my son, he is my life and always will be. We now have a portable hyper baric chamber that just came in and we will be putting Robert in the chamber as much as he can take. I will update again and let everyone no the progress that Robert makes with the chamber.Original Story
Well I don't really know how to start this story about Robert other than he is my son and he is in a coma. On May 20th, 2000 late in the afternoon I received a phone call from the Lincoln county sheriff and they told me that my son had been in a accident on Hwy 177 and 105 only 6 miles from home. I called my dad and we left here from my home. When we drove up to the wreck I could not believe what I seen. My son was still in his car and they where trying to get him out, he was moving at that time. I wanted to help them so bad being a EMT myself I could not believe what I saw them do. Robert was covered with blood and moving back in forth in the car. They called Life Flight out of Oklahoma City Oklahoma and they got there in about 8 minutes the longest 8 minutes of my life. The woman that had hit Robert did not get hurt at all and they had gotten her away from the wreck sight before they even called me. She has not called us at all to see if he had lived threw this at all, what kind of people are living in the United States now. This woman had hit Robert with a suv and Robert was in a Nissan NX 2000 car, she was going 72 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour speed zone and Robert was going 4 miles per hour. There was glass everywhere and CD disk all over the road. I remember walking up to the car and seeing Roberts sun glasses laying on the hwy unhurt I picked them up right away. The next thing I saw was Robert's sun roof to his car that I found out later had hit Robert in the back of his head cutting a 31/2 inch cut. I came home to get my pickup and left for Oklahoma City. When I finally got to the hospital ER they told me Robert would never make it that had closed head injuries and damage to his stomach and his lungs and heart and bladder and his pelvic, and his face and what ever else was damaged they did not know at that time. Robert at this time was deep in a coma due to his closed head injuries and on life support. They did surgery on Robert that morning at 2:00am that was only to last 2 hours, they did not get done with Robert until 7:00am the next morning. They had to put a bolt in his head to relieve the pressure and then rebuild his face as well as they could, all of this was done after they got Robert back up to ICU. I remember the first time I saw my son I thought to myself how could GOD do this to me my only child, he took Robert's dad when Robert was only 18 months old and now this my son. For the next 62 days I sat by my son never leaving him and talking with him. He finally opened his eyes at 31 days into the coma but nothing was happing. I never have gave up on Robert and I never will, as God as my witness I never will. As time went on at the hospital I saw the nurses not doing there jobs and Roberts family from Wyoming and I where doing it for them. Finally I told the doctors that I will take Robert home if I haft to do it all anyway. So they got everything ready and I contacted Chandler ambulance to pick Robert up to bring him home. The big day arrived and I was so nerves that I just wanted to be with him. Robert is now home and showing allot of progress, he now moves his legs when I ask him to his arms and moans allot. We now have a van with a lift and a special wheel chair for Robert and this is how we get him around. {Of course this is with know help from our state} We fill we have came along ways with Robert the doctors said he would never get this far. So this story should give any caregiver hope, I hope we have helped you in any way. If you need to contact me Robert's mother my e-mail is rocky@brightok.net.
Good luck and God Bless to all.
