DWINDLING FIRE

The fire of autumn's beauty
Begins with summer's demise.
That season of change invades,
Yea, captures the soul.
Trees, splashed with color by God,
And the fields, slowly dying,
Are a spectacle for those few
Who spend time noticing.
As a maiden who prepares herself for her wedding night,
So are the woods of autumn before winter.
She beautifies herself, lavishly,
And in great contentment,
Begins a most restful, peaceful sleep.

Transitions

I looked over the stretches of winters savage whiteness,,,
And felt my heart cry out for spring's early rains.
The sleep of winter's stillness had tired me,,
,,,beyond life itself,,, and I yearned for the future eternity.
As I watched,,,,new life lept from the depth of winter's death,
the white giving way to green.
Heat from the now warm sun filled my heart,
as the fragrance of yet another season fresh,
plowed it's way into being.
