Warmth of A Friendship

LtdCol C.Johnson aka "Cheese"

For over 2 years "Cheese" worked with Blu to teach her to write her name and to type on the computer in a live tbichat. Blu's replies to Cheese were just letters at random in the beginning, however, the connectivity of seeing her sit in front of the computer, hit keys on the keyboard and follow his type as I read to her what what he was asking her, was a major break through for Blu.

Janice "Blu" would reply vocally in simple terms y/n/hi/ok.

"Cheese's" efforts and patience in working with Jancie "Blu" reveal the beauty of compassion and understanding between survivors of TBI.

Outstanding is the remarkable attributes shared between a survivor that deals with severe communication impairments, such as "Blu" in comparison to an extremely high functioning Survivor of TBI, "Cheese".

Scott "Climber" Peterson

Surivor of Traumatic Brain Injury: Rock Climber,Taxedermist (PreTBI)
Entreprenuer, Motivational Speaker (PostTBI).

"I got to my favorite cliffs, to climb them, and I stood there for a moment just enjoying the summer breezes gently caressing my face. I watched the river boat continue its journey up the mighty river. I continued down the talus slope,to the base of the cliff, so that I could set up for my climb."
Excerpt from "Climber 's" personal story.

Above quote by "Climber" reveals his passion and appreciation of nature and its beauty. Likewise, Climber' compassion, understanding and caring for others is the beauty and strength of his inner being. An inspiration he has been both to Blu and I and a dear friend who extends a hand of warmth and friendship to those that come to know him. Pearl

"Ginny"

Survivor of Multiple Traumatic Brain Injury.

Ginny's charisma and boldness has opened the way for many other survivors via her involvement with South Carolina's Brain Injury Association. Her kindness was expressed to Blu by sending Blu a beautifully illustrated book of the country sides in South Carolina and surrounding states. Ginny understood the love Blu had for traveling the country before her TBI, so as to bring back to Blu's mind and soul, comfort of places Blu had been. Caring for Blu's recovery by Ginny is the memory we carry in hearts.

"You may be glad to know that I was awarded my Ph.D, before my birthday. This means that I am officially "Doctor" Sherry now. So that is exciting news for me. I was realy pleased with the reports. One of the markers said it was one of the best Ph.Ds he had ever seen, and the others were also full of praise for it. More importantly, disabled people who had participated in the research were really proud of me. I also received congratulatory emails from disabled academics in Australia, the USA, Canada and England. So it is something I am quite happy about."
Regards

Mark
