Los Angeles Caregivers Resource Center (LACRC)

"My First Home in the Process of Understanding TBI.

I was invited to attend on 6/30/98 a forum for caregivers and it was at that occassion where someone in the audience yelled out the LINK to: TBICHAT.ORG, as I had raised the question as to where I could talk to survivors of brain injury and gain understanding and support of what I was facing in caring for my daughter Janice "Blu".

It was at the LACRC, where the seed began to root and flourish in my quest of understanding how I could help my daughter, Janice "Blu" TBI 12/4/97, motor vehicle accident, as backseat driver without a seatbelt.

Special thanks to the the assistant Irene, who heard my story and was touched deeply to inform, administration of my plight. Despite her young age, she sensed the humanitarian need and thus cordially invited me and LACRC provided the service of someone caring for my daughter so that I could attend the forum on 6/30/98.

A year later, I was privileged to be the speaker as a Caregiver on 6/30/99 and shared my appreciation to an audience of healthcare professionals, therapist, survivors, caregivers, administration staff.

It was at this forum, Connie Goldman was in the audience and heard my presentation and upon her request to the currnet Director of Family Services Ms. Shawn Herz to introduce us so that Connie could speak with me about her mission in bringing attention to the stories of caregivers.

Ms.Shawn Herz, outstanding in her outreach efforts to enable Caregivers and their families is to be commented for her committment to understand the roles both of caregivers and survivors and does so lovingly, patiently and courageously.

Our story would never had been known nor would I have dreamed of being a guest speaker at the LACRC if it had not been for IRENE, a young case worker who had a heart of gold and understood human compassion and had such yearning to help and now as she has moved on in her life, my hope and wishes for her is that if ever she is in need of being comforted and supported, I hope she will be showered beyond her wildest imagination with love, understanding and compassion as she extended to Janice Blu and I, when sat in our room listening to our story and shared tears of pain yet she turned them into tears of joy, knowing I could survive and that as a mother and caregiver, my dark world need not go feeling alone and overwhelmed.

Irene, she was the seed of hope that was planted in my heart. The beauty of a Irene's soul was displayed by her approaching the previous Director to hear our story.

Whatever path she may walk, may seeds be planted for her as fond memories of her, bring a smile to both, Blu and I as we recall her compassion and having arranged for me to attend the forum of 6/30/98."
