Update 09/08/02Sorry its been awhile since I have updated my story!!! As you kno I have graduated! I am not going to college yet but I do plan to go!! I will be working starting Monday at a Nursing Home well volunteering to start off with and if I like it I will get a job there!! I am with this agency that is called Vocational Education Studies for Individuals with Disibilities (VESID)!! I am not driving yet so that is going to be a problem! My right arm still shakes but not that much anymore its starting to get better!! Oh, the senior ball aka prom I had a date he was so funny lol! He wore this orange zuit suit! I thought he was going to totally embarrasse me but it turned out that every one loved it!!! Even teachers!!!
Update 07/17/02It has been a while since I have updated my story! Well, now I have accomplished 1 of many goals in my life! I graduated from high school with a regular high school diploma! My first goal was to graduate high school, my second is to graduate college, 3rd to get out of my house, and 4th is to find out what really happen in my accident. I am doing a lot better now than I was! Before my accident I was right handed now I am left handed my whole right side shakes a little now not that much though! But its getting better everyday! I don't know exactly what I want to do in the future but I know that I would like to be a physical therapist but that takes a lot of math and science! Because I think it would be good for me to help kids or adults who are in the same situation as I was in 11 years ago! But I have this new councilor named Steve who is a TBI specialist, he is really sweet! I met him through his wife Brooke and I know his son Steven! I met Brooke because she is a deaf interpreter at my school and Steven is deaf! This is the first time I have had a male councilor! Steve got me hooked up with some people who have a TBI! And to me that felt really special! We had a like a survivor picnic over at my house and that was so neat! Because I have never really met people with TBI like that! I am not going through physical therapy anymore for my hand I am just working on it by myself! And the picture is of my senior picture! Personally I do not like it because it makes me look fat!
Original StoryWell let see where do I start ok I know I will start at this I was living in Jacksonville, Alabama thats where I was raised now I live in Upstate New York. Well I was 7 years old I was in 2nd grade. We where on our way to school in the morning and we didnt live but 2 miles from the schools. So we were running a little bit late for school. My parents were at work already. The sun was really bright that day of my accident which was October 8, 1991. My sister pulled up to the stop sign even tho she could not see the stop sign she knew there was one there so she looked both wayz. She looked and did not see anything coming so she pulled out and a white pick-up truck was coming.
We were running late that we were in the process of putting are seat belts on. So the truck hit us and the car spun! here comes the part where I get hurt: I hit the drivers seat, hit the stirring wheel, flew out the wind-shield, hit the stop sign, and ended up in the back of the car. Bad Huh!! Luckly, I lived right next to the hospital. From that hospital they flew me in helocoptor to Birmingham, Alabama Children's Hospital. There I was diagnosed with a TBI. I was in a coma for 6 weeks and I was in the hospital for 3 months. Everyone in the hospital called me the "Miracle Baby"! I had to relearn everything over again from how to walk, talk, eat, and potty trained. Like being a baby all over again. But look at me now! I am 18 years old, a senior in highschool, I graduate in June and cant wait! It has been 11 years since my accident. I am so happy to be alive!!!
Thank you for taking time and listening to my story!
love always,
