Update 03/27/03
I forgot to add one of the most important things about Stevens injuries. He has brain damage to two parts of his brain one being the bottom left side which operates your vision. Yes my Steven is also very visually impaired considered legally blind. Parents please make your kids wear helmets even if it is two houses down and if they want to fight about it and not wear one keep fighting back don't let them go ahead this one time and ride because you don't wont to argue with them. DO NOT let them ride anything with wheels, and for goodness sake children should not ride on four-wheelers any way you look at them they are a very dangerous piece of machinery. Thanks for reading my story
Original Story
My story started on August 11,2002 My son went with some neighbors to ride a four-wheeler. He drove me crazy all summer about that stupid thing and I told him no every time he asked the things are dangerous and I do not like them. I had went to the store on this afternoon to return to my son so excited because his dad and Aunt decided they could go and it would be alright as long as my sister went to. Well hesitantly I said ok. It was the last day before school started. I was nervous about this all day. I even stared out the window with a feeling something was wrong but knew that my sister would call. About an hour later a neighbor came to our door to tell me and my husband there had been an accident with the boys, both my eight year old and thirteen year old, at the time he was twelve had been in a bad accident and one was in an ambulance on the way to the hospital and the other was being life flighted to the hospital. Many hours went be before we knew what was wrong. My eight year old had a severely broken wrist they put back together with pins and a broken spirit. My twelve year old had went head first into a telephone pole no he did not have on a helmet. He had broken every bone in his face, fractured his skull in several different places and split his tongue in half ,dislocated his thumb, knocked out four bottom teeth and last but certainly not least had damaged his brain in two places. His frontal lobe his the back left side of his brain. My son wasn't suppose to make it thru the night. He did though we spent 3 weeks in picu and then they sent us to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at scottish Rite to be rehabilitated. We stayed there for 51/2 months while my husband and two other children stayed here. we went thru alot in between but this story is already long sorry about that once you start it is hard to stop. We are home now and alot is different my Steven did die in that accident and it is not always easy. thanks to this man named Robert who turned me on to this website, I hopefully will be able to talk to people who know what I have been thru and am going thru.
God Bless all ,
