Hi, I'm Kasey, and was 17 at the time of the accident. Five months ago I was working at Subway on Oct. 27,2002, which is a Sunday. I got off at 5pm with my friend Ed. Ashlea and Amanda were coming on. At that Subway it's never busy on weekends. So Ash was in her car listening to her stereo and Amanda was looking through her cds. I got on Ashlea's hood and asked her to take me to my car. She did. Before I got there I fell off going 25 miles an hour and hit the left side of my head on the pavement. Ed immediately called 911 and Ashlea started bawling. Amanda saw that I was choking and she set me up and held on to me because I was bleeding from my ears, nose, and mouth. That's one of that ways that saved my life. When the ambulance came in they took me to Jewish in Shelbyville, Kentucky. I was so critical I didn't even go inside. There was a helicopter there fueling up before it went back to Louisville and I was immediately put on that and flown to UL. My heart stopped 3 times before we got there. I was immediately taken to brain surgery where they removed part of my left skull. Had they not done that I would have died because my brain was swelling and there was nowhere for my brain to go. I was in ICU for 4 weeks. On the second day in there I had a stroke and then a week later I had another stroke. Everything after that stopped working on my right side. My right leg, right arm, right ear and even my right part of my mouth stopped working and was partially paralyzed. I also wound up with a blood clot on the back of my head and severe pneumonia. I went to CCU for 2 weeks. Where they removed my trachea and I was able to talk for the first time in 6 weeks. I also lost my stomach tube after 2 months. I had to be an in-patient at Frazier for 2 months and now I go to a different Frazier 5 days a week for supposedly 4 months. I can now walk fine and my right arm, ear and mouth are back to normal...but I was very close to being gone!
