On November 22nd, my life changed forever. My sister had an unexpected seizure due to hyponatrimia. Hyponatrimia is low sodium counts in the blood. She was suffering for one week prior to this event from something believed, by the dr's word, to be gastritis. She was not eating well for about six-days and she was drinking a lot of water. She was, unbeknownst to her, depleting her body of the essential electrolytes she needs. Her sodium level was 100 and her potassium level was low as well. Thank God she was with my cousin and Aunt when she seized. She was immediately put on a respirator and monitored. The following month was awful. She would wake up and not respond to anyone who was in the room. The first MRI came back negative. The spinal tap cam back negative. The Dr's were at a loss. On December 9th, we found out that my sister had acute brain damage. The DR also said, only time would tell the fate of my sister. On Christmas Eve we believed that God gave us a Christmas gift when my sister started responding to simple commands. She was immediately transferred to rehab and was making huge gains until a recent setback. She was doing extremely well -- trying to talk (no luck yet)-- learning how to walk all over again - and then this past Sunday we learned that she had developed an Aspiration Pneumonia. Now she is back in intensive care. She is incredibly weak and extremely lethargic. Her color looks better today and she is able to breath on her own using an oxygen mask. She is not on a respirator at this point. I cannot do anything but hope and pray that she can get over this pneumonia.
