Hello everyone, this is Gloria's mother. I am updating Gloria's story for all
of you. Gloria is doing really well. I am so proud of her. She has a acomplished
basicly everything on her own. She has been married for a year now to a very nice
man named Paul. She is pregnant and her due date is July 2005. Gloria and Paul are
very happy, and I couldn't be happier for them. Here are some pictures one is Gloria
and me (aka Mom) the other I'm sure you can guess is her husband Paul. We are so
lucky that Gloia survided the accident thanks to lots of prayers.
Sincerly Mary.
I am writing this story for daughter Gloria. She asked me, her mother, Mary, to write it for her being that she does not remember the details. It all starts October 2nd, 2001. Gloria, who was at the time 19 years old, and my other daughter Michelle, who was 18, were coming back from Delta College in Stockton, CA. Gloria was signing up for classes. Gloria was the driver. She pulled out in front of a semi-truck and almost cleared it, but she was T-boned by the truck. A man in another car saw the accident and went to Michelle's side of the car. He got my name and my phone number from her. He called me and told me Michelle was fine, but Gloria is critically injured. The Paramedics were 6 minutes away. They got there, put breathing tubes in her. She was med-flighted to San Juaquin General Hospital Trauma Unit. She had a TBI, collapsed lungs, broken ribs. They put chest tubes in both sides of her. A few days later they gave her a trachaeotomy and a feeding tube. She was in a coma for 2 weeks and then transferred to Kindred Hospital in Folsom, CA. She was semi-comatose for 2 more weeks. Then she was transferred to UC Davis rehab unit. Next, she went to Sierra Gates rehab center in Granite Bay, CA. She was there for 2 months. She finally was able to come home, and received out patient therapy for 1 month at Sierra Gates. Now she is at home, and does outpatient therapy at UC Davis twice a week. She had to relearn talking, walking, eating, basically everything. I'm so proud of her. The one thing that was mostly damaged was her balance, which she is regaining. She can walk without assistance, but she also has a cane. Her goal is to walk without anyone, or anything. She will be taking classes off the internet soon. Being that she can't go to college physically because the campus is so large. But, mentally is just about ready for it. If anyone would like to e-mail her, her address is morissette_paul@hotmail.com. She would really appreciate it, considering she has lost her boyfriend, and most of her friends. She still has her family who will always be there for her.Email Gloria
