Hello my name is Bobby, I'm 6yrs. post tbi. I was in an auto accident on Jan.17,1997. I was the front seat passenger.There were 6 of my friends in the car that night. The driver and myself in the front seat, and 4 others in the back seat. It was a small compact car, the back seat was only built for 2 maybe 3 people. We were headed to a teenage nite club. I don't really remember what happened that night ,only what I've been told. The car was traveling 46mph, in a 35mph residential,4 lane road. From what I was told, the driver also 16 lost control and left the road and hit a tree. The tree hit right where I was sitting. They ,the paramedics were able to get everyone out ok, accept ,one kid in the back seat behind me, and myself. It took a lot longer for them to get him out, and the jaws of life to get me out.I was told that my pulse and blood pressure were so low that they wanted to pretty much pronounce me DOA. I was told that during my helicopter ride to the hospital, they had to tubulate me. The emergency room Doctors worked on me to get me stable,then they moved me to ICU, where they continued to work on me. The Doctors told my mom and dad that I was in critical condition,and that I might not come out of the coma,that I had severe head trauma, and that they weren't sure how much brain damage I would have, that only time would tell.They also told my mom and dad that my hip and pelvic was smashed and I would need surgery to fix it. The plastic surgeon worked on my face for 4 hours. The accident happened around 7pm, and it was 5am, when they let my parents in to see me. I was hooked up to all kinds of life support. I was in ICU for 13 days, then I was moved up to the advanced neuro care unit. I'm told that I went through some really tough days.Not really responding , to simple commands, and that I was in a low level 3 coma, so they had to move me to a long term/rehabilitation center.That was on Feb.15,1997, I was in the special care unit of the center for about 2 weeks, then they moved me down stars to the head injury rehab unit.Where I began my therapies, on March 19,1997 I came home to start my out-patient therapies.That ended around Aug,1997.I was then trying to get back into school, but I was having to much behavioral problems, so I had to leave, I've been a client of BVR/BVIS,& MR/DD, They have been working with me on getting a job. I've had about 30 or more different jobs, all I found on my own, but because of my behavioral problems I haven't kept a job for more then a few months.They put me in a program call H.I.R.E. (head injury reentry).I have been on all kinds of medication, for my memory, my anger, my concentration, and my ability to stay on task, and my impulsive behavior. I don't want to take medicine anymore, I feel as if I'm more wake, and I function better not taking them.This TBI has turned my whole life up side down, and I'm trying to get my life back.
