This is actually my daughter Brook's story.
On Nov. 11, '93 we awoke to find her lying out on our half- mile lane shot thru the head with a .22 pistol. We didn't wait for the ambulance, racing the 5 miles to hospital. From there she was life- flighted to a brain trauma center. For 23 days we watched over her in I.C.U., 18 more days on regular floor, three months inpatient at Elk's Rehab, and four more months outpatient there. After Graduating with her senior class in June of '94, she finished her half credit to get her H.S. diploma and went on to limited classes in the local Jr. college. She worked very hard to get her Oregon drivers license back ( but has since let it go). With some visual-special deficits, driving is just too hard for her. For a year she had her own apartment, then went on to live with another disabled room-mate. She is currently out of work. Jobs are hard to keep as sometimes it's difficult for her to keep on track. Amazingly, she has very little or no physical disabilities. That Nov. was record cold. Frostbite took eight of her toe tips (no nails to cut!) and two fingers, but it saved her life, her memory, her spectacular intelligence and sense of humor. I hope Brook's story will be an inspiration to many of you. She's truly my miracle!!!!
